MEDITATION = MINDFUL BREATHING
(PAYING ATTENTION TO THE PRESENT MOMENT WITHOUT JUDGEMENT)
I have been reading over the research on meditation and mindfulness. It's all great stuff, but It sounds pretty impossible for a beginner: sit still, be quiet, focus on your breath, don't drift off with your thoughts, find a comfortable space, practice daily, and so forth.
How do you begin? The answer is: find 5 minutes in your day. Well, you can do that! Next, sit anywhere that's quiet (perhaps, your car!) and be aware of your inhale and exhale. That's it!
Do not try to control or change your breathing...just be aware of it. If your mind starts to drift to your "To Do" list or your plans for the weekend, simply acknowledge the thought and bring your attention back to your breath. Don't judge yourself here.
